In a candid and insightful interview on The5%ers‘ YouTube channel, funded trader Ellis shared his personal journey through the highs and lows of becoming a consistently profitable trader. Currently trading while traveling through Malaysia, Ellis represents a growing community of traders using the flexibility of prop firm funding to live life on their own terms.

“I can do it whenever and wherever,” Ellis said, describing the freedom he now enjoys thanks to trading. But reaching this point wasn’t easy.

Like many, Ellis started with signal trading—quickly realizing it wasn’t a sustainable strategy. “The signals didn’t work, and I knew I needed to learn to do this properly,” he admitted. With an entrepreneurial background including e-commerce, Ellis approached trading with the mindset of building a business.

His transition from losing trades to becoming consistently funded took about two and a half years. He’s now been funded for a year and a half, most recently through The5%ers, where his methodical and disciplined style stands out.

Ellis trades just four currency pairs, focusing on intraday swing setups using higher timeframes for structure and lower timeframes for precise entries. “My strategy is simple—I wait for price to hit a level of interest, confirm direction with structure and liquidity, then enter with a clear risk-reward,” he explained. Many of his trades are based on fractal analysis and Fibonacci retracements, often using limit orders and strict stop-loss placement.

His first payout from The5%ers? “It was a relief more than excitement,” he said. “It validated all the hard work.”

With clear risk management rules and patience guiding his decisions, Ellis exemplifies the trader mindset that The5%ers seek to support. His story is a testament to what’s possible with discipline, strategy, and the right support system.
