In an exclusive TFT interview, Aaron, a seasoned trader, shares his remarkable journey from a background in information technology (IT) to becoming a thriving trader. Aaron, who resides in the bustling city of New York, first entered the financial realm when he secured a position at a hedge fund. However, what sets his journey apart is that he didn’t start as a trader or an analyst. Instead, he joined the fund’s technology team. Little did he know that this role would be the gateway to a new and exciting chapter in his career.
The pivotal moment came when Aaron realized that while working in the industry, he had a unique opportunity to learn from the best of the best. Despite lacking a formal education in finance, his inquisitive nature and passion for knowledge led him to seek guidance from the seasoned professionals at the hedge fund.
This unconventional path allowed Aaron to gain insights into the trading world and, more importantly, the art of trading. He began to immerse himself in the intricacies of the markets, eager to grasp the strategies employed by the industry’s veterans.
Aaron continued to share, “I realized that if you’re my age, you probably didn’t have the life experience of actually trading during the recession. That’s how I evaluated the majority of trading instructors and gurus. If you’re my age, I don’t want to talk to you. I only want to talk to you if you’re at least 15 or 20 years older than me.”
“Emotional control was my biggest challenge,” Aaron confessed during the interview. “In the beginning, I was trading with my own money, and the pressure of losing a significant amount was immense. I also traded too aggressively before learning proper risk management.”
Many traders can relate to these struggles, as managing emotions is a hurdle that often separates successful traders from the rest.
