In a recent exclusive interview, The5%ers sat down with funded trader Ellis to explore his trading journey, strategy, and what it truly takes to become a consistent performer in the prop firm world.
Originally from the UK and currently trading remotely from Malaysia, Ellis shared how he transitioned from early losses to achieving consistent profitability. “Like most, I lost money at the start. But once I discovered the benefits of prop firms and built my own strategy, things started to turn around,” he explained.
With over two and a half years of trading experience and more than a year as a funded trader, Ellis emphasized the importance of simplicity, structure, and mindset. His approach involves trading only four major currency pairs, combining higher timeframe analysis with precision entries on the 5-minute and 15-minute charts.
“I’m not necessarily trading with the trend—I’m just looking for clean reactions from key levels. If I catch that initial bounce, that’s enough. Consistency is more important than chasing every move,” he shared.
Ellis also discussed the psychological rewards of achieving funding and seeing his first payout:
“It’s a pretty cool experience, especially when you start realizing you can do this consistently. For me, it felt like freedom—being able to trade whenever, wherever.”
Using a system that blends risk control with clear entry criteria, Ellis now targets high-probability setups and adjusts his position sizing accordingly. His recent trade netted him a 5.8% return, showcasing both patience and precision.
With a clear message to new traders, Ellis concluded: “Don’t rush the process. Trading isn’t about getting rich overnight—it’s about long-term discipline and smart decision-making.”
